What we believe
We believe in God the Father who created all things, who calls his human family to be partners in creation and recreation with Him and is intimately and passionately involved in the world today. We believe the whole created order (however you understand that) is heading somewhere and God still wants us to play our part in that.
We believe in God the Son (Jesus of Nazareth) who is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Jesus revealed the Father’s nature and purposes in his life and teachings and then in his offering of himself on the cross he reconciled the whole world to Himself (2 Corinthians 5). Our understanding of the resurrection of Jesus means that sin and death don’t have the final word for us. St Paul said this…”if God is for us who can be against us …and nothing can separate us from that love” (Romans 8). We believe that Jesus is still calling people to follow him today and we are community of those called people – and busy calling more!
We believe in the Holy Spirit who lives in our hearts through faith (2 Corinthians 1). The very life and breath of God poured out on the first disciples is at work in the followers of Jesus today. The Holy Spirit bring all kinds of gifts to the people of God and helps them to live lives ‘in step’ with his.
Our belief in God, understood and known down the centuries as Father Son and Holy Spirit, is only the beginning of the journey. As disciples (students and followers) we commit ourselves to no more and no less than a life of learning and questions and even some doubts. We will work hard for the community we believe God has called us to serve. We will give of our time, talents and treasure. We will meet to pray and worship. We will rejoice together and weep together.
